Oh, yes, singapore is definitely gonna be expensive. But I did some research to try to cut down costs.
So far, the best option for accommodation is the Orchard Parade Hotel, which is having a promotion, rooms for Malaysians at SGD 199 per night. If we share the room with say, 5 people, the price goes down quite significantly :D
Another option is the Fragrance Hotel Imperial/Oasis, which has a promotion, a mere SGD209 for 2/3 nights stay respectively. Definitely affordable. I think there's a maximum of 2 per room,but we can try bending the rules. XD Apparently, the room's rather small, kind of like Tune Hotel in KL.
Another option is to stay at dorms, with 4 in a room. We'll be sharing bathrooms with other people though, and I'm not too fond of this idea. Invasion of privacy, much?
We can go there via KTMB, take the night train. It'd cost about RM40 one way with a bed, or if you reeaaaally wanna go budget, RM 28 for a seat (not comfy-looking though).

Oh yeah, Orchard Parade is obviously in the middle of Orchard Road. ;) For that price, I think it's worth it.
OR, we could stay at Sentosa! These two hotels are apparently have big rooms and a lot of luxuries (32-inch lcd in every room, zomg.) . A bit more expensive, though still in range.
